Series Win Over Tennessee Has Tigers In Hunt

Auburn won two of three over Tennessee, including a 4-3 comeback victory on Sunday, and is tied for first place in the SEC West.

Auburn, Ala.--Continuing a hot streak that has seen them win seven of their last nine games, the Auburn Tigers had a very good week with mid-week wins over Mercer and Samford before winning two of three against Tennessee over the weekend at Plainsman Park. Currently 18-10 overall and 4-5 in league play, Auburn is tied with Alabama and Ole Miss for first place in the Western Division.

Thanks to some late heroics on Sunday when the Tigers scored two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, Auburn's fortunes are much different than they could have been with a loss on Sunday. Instead Matt Hall's game winner propelled the Tigers to a 4-3 win and creates a two-game swing in the SEC standings. Instead of three games under .500 and a road trip to Arkansas coming up this weekend, the Tigers are right in the thick of things and have won back-to-back series in the league for the first time since 2006.

Offensive Player of the Week:

It's tough to choose this week, but the player of the week goes to true freshman center fielder Trent Mummey. He started the week on a tear with a 4-5 night against Mercer and never slowed down. A 2-6 night against Samford followed before his huge weekend against the Vols. In three games Mummey went 8-14 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Honorable mention has to go to shortstop Matt Hall. Currently riding a nine-game hitting streak, Hall went 11-21 for the week, including nine runs scored and four RBI. Against Tennessee he was 6-13 with four runs scored and the lone RBI the game winner on Sunday.

Pitcher of the Week:

There were several good performances this week on the mound, but our call goes to true freshman Bradley Hendrix. He earned the win on Wednesday night at Samford with four innings of one-run baseball and followed that up with a solid start on Sunday. In five and two/thirds he allowed just two runs on seven hits.
