Coventry Sets Third World Record This Week

Manchester, England--With a victory in the 200 individual medley at the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships on Saturday, former Tiger star Kirsty Coventry set her third world record of the week.

Coventry posted a time of 2:06:13 to take more than a second off the old record that was set in 1993 by Allison Wagner. Coventry's other world records this week were in the 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley.

In addition to her three gold medals this week, Coventry, who won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2004 Olympics, has a bronze at the competition in England that runs through Sunday.

Former Tigers Bryan Lunquist, Doug Van Wie and Margaret Hoelzer have won gold medals this week at the world championships along with 2008 AU team member Kara Denby.
