"I think I did pretty good," says Jackson High School defensive end Gabriel Mass. "It was a lot of hard work. I got tired a little bit.
"We did a lot of different things at the camp in Auburn compared to the one in Mobile," he notes. "There were more timing events in Mobile and more fundamental drills at Auburn. There was also a lot more talent at the camp in Auburn."
Gabriel Mass is shown at the elite camp in Auburn.
A six-foot-three, 247-pounder, he is being recruiting by a variety of SEC colleges, including Auburn and Alabama, but is still waiting on scholarship offers. He made 55 tackles with six sacks as a junior while adding three fumble recoveries and forcing two fumbles. He made 60 tackles with eight sacks as a sophomore.
"I've been running on the track this spring just to stay in shape and get faster," says Mass, who also notes that he has been lifting weights at school with his football teammates.
Commenting on the 2008 season, Mass says, "We lost a lot of starters last year, but we have a new head coach and he's been pushing everybody real hard. I think we have a bright future ahead for us."
Mass says he plans to return to Auburn for a summer camp and will check out other campuses, too. "I plan on going to go to a lot of one-day camps at different schools. I'll probably go to Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and South Alabama."
