Women's Golf Finishes Fourth At East Regional

Auburn advances to the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish at the East Regional.

Athens, Ga.--The 10th ranked Auburn women's golf team took care of business on Saturday with a plus eight round at the NCAA East Regional to easily qualify for the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish in the 21 team field.

Candace Shepperle led the way for the Tigers with a one-under-par round on the way to a 14th-place finish individually.

Freshman Cydney Clanton continued her strong play with an even par round at the University of Georgia Golf Course and finished one-over par for the regional and tied for fourth overall.

Rounding out Auburn's Saturday rounds were Margaret Shirley at plus 3, Mariana Macias at plus 6 and Sarah Thead at plus 7.

Florida won the overall team title at the regional at plus 19, one shot ahead of the country's number one team Duke at plus 20.

Playing on its home course Georgia finished at plus 25 and just ahead of Auburn. Rounding out the qualifying top eight teams were Virginia plus 34, South Carolina plus 35, Wake Forest plus 35 and Furman plus 36.

Only the top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championships that will be held May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
