"I have a new offer from Oregon," said Jamar Travis. "Oregon called me about three weeks ago and told me I have an offer. It was very surprising. I have never talked to anyone from there before then. I was excited about it."
"I also have offers from Alabama, Auburn, Southern Miss, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Clemson. Alabama and Auburn are my top two. They are dead-even with each other. I really like LSU, Georgia and Miami as well. I want to look at those schools."
Alabama: "I don't know too much, but I have met the coaching staff. I met all of them more than once. I like their defense a lot. That is the big thing about Alabama. I like the location of Tuscaloosa."
Auburn: "I know all the coaches. I have all their personal numbers. They told me I could play as a freshman."
Georgia: "They are the No. 1 school in the nation. As I grew up they were one of my favorite schools. I would like to see what all they have to offer."
LSU: "I wasn't really looking at them until I saw Glenn Dorsey. He made a name for himself at LSU. He is about my size. I could make a name for myself at LSU."
Miami: "I like the location. They used to be one of my favorite schools. I would like to check them out. They seem to have a lot to offer."
The 6-foot-1.5, 295-pound prospect talked about the spring and summer plans.
"Spring training went real good," Travis said. "We just scrimmaged each other. We finished up the second week of May. It was only 10 days. We are going to be a lot better than I thought."
"From what I have seen on the field I have improved a lot. I have improved my footwork and using my hands. I am going to focus on getting stronger in the summer."
"We are trying to figure everything out about the summer. I would love to go to LSU, and visit Texas this summer. I know I am going to visit the two in-state schools. I would like to visit Miami and Georgia as well."
Travis plans to wait until after the 2008 season before making a decision. He knows the factors which will play an important role in the process.
"I am mostly looking to see if I like the location, and if I fit in or not," he stated. "I have to like all the coaches. Playing time would not be a big factor. The key is to get to college and eventually get to play ball. I could deal with that."
