Auburn, Ala.--Auburn's Cydney Clanton continued her impressive golf season by qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open with rounds of 69 and 71 in a one-day qualifier at the Pinehurst Resort & Golf Club in North Carolina.
The NCAA Women's Golf Freshman of the Year will compete at this year's open scheduled for June 26-29 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minnesota. Clanton also earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors for the Tigers as well as first team All-SEC status. She was also named a Freshman All-American.
Former Auburn standout Nicole Hage will also be competing in the U.S. Open field.
Other AU women's golfers who have made the U.S. Open field include Courtney Trimble (Swaim) in 2002 and 2004, Diana Ramage and Celeste Troche in 2001, Missy Tuck competed in 1994 and former Auburn player and coach Virginia Derby-Grimes played in the event five times.
