Fayette County's Franks Talks Recruiting

An interview with a game video features comments from a rising senior football prospect.

Fayette, Ala.--Chuck Franks plans to hit the in-state camp circuit in July in hopes of attracting more scholarship offers.

The 6-3, 210-pound outside linebacker and tight end for Fayette County High School is coming off a productive junior season in which he made 85 tackles, intercepted two passes and forced a fumble.

"Stanford is my only offer so far," Franks tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "Coach (Waldon) Tucker is a well-known coach around the state of Alabama. He talked to some coaches from there and got a chance to send them some game film. They got back with me and told me they like me and made an offer."

Franks was one of the prospects from Alabama who was in Atlanta for the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine. He made the trip to the Georgia Dome after working out the previous day in Nashville at a Vanderbilt football camp.

"The combine gave me an opportunity to compete with some of the top prospects in the country and compare my talent," he says.

Franks says he believes the event went well for him, but he wasn't happy with his time in the 40-yard dash.

"My 40 clocked in at a 4.9 on the (artificial) turf," he says. "I came from the camp at Vanderbilt on Saturday so I didn't have good legs under me. I gave it my best shot. My best 40 is a 4.7 that I did on Saturday at Vandy."

Franks says that Vandy assistant coach Robbie Caldwell told him that he was impressed with the way the Fayette County standout performed at the Commodores' camp. "I like to joke around with him," Franks notes. "He was excited about me. They treat me like I am their own up there and it feels like home.

Commenting on other programs who are recruiting him, Franks says, "Western Kentucky has shown a lot of interest and Vanderbilt has shown the most interest of all. Behind them it would be Alabama and Troy.

"I would say Auburn has shown medium interest. Coach (Don) Dunn has been in touch with me and wants me to come down to the camp (this Saturday) so hopefully I can showcase my talents there and pick up another offer."

Franks, who notes that he is still growing, says he also plans to go to camps at Alabama and Troy prior to the start of his senior season. He is a prospect who could grow into a defensive end at the next level.

Commenting on his style of play, Franks says, "I think I am a physical player. I like to go to the ball playing the outside linebacker position. I have good speed and I can react to things real well. I have been a starter all four years of my high school year."

Franks, who made the All-West Alabama Team selected by the Tuscaloosa News says he believes outside linebacker is his best position. He also plays basketball and averaged 17 points per game as a junior.

In the classroom the rising senior says he has a 3.4 grade point average and notes that he plans to add a third sport in his final year of high school. "I plan to run track as a senior, but this year I wanted to focus on football going into my senior season."

Commenting on his goal for football this fall, he says, "I want to finish with a winning season. We have a very young team. Hopefully, we will make a run for the playoffs this year."
