At 5-9, 205 pounds with excellent speed and clockings in the 4.4s for the 40-yard dash, Kight is scheduled to start for a fourth consecutive season. Last year he made 153 tackles as an outside linebacker and in part-time duty at running back he rushed for what he says is "right at 700 yards."
"My camp at Auburn went real good," he tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I got to do a lot of things at running back even though I am used to being on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Gran really liked me at running back. He said I am definitely on their radar."
Gran is AU running backs coach Eddie Gran. "Coach Gran told me that I am definitely on their radar," says Kight, whose older brother Kelvin Kight played for the Florida Gators and for the New England Patriots as a wide receiver.
"When I talked to Coach Gran on junior day he had seen my film and said he liked everything," Kight adds. "He said in the camp he wanted to see if I could catch so I showed him I could catch. He said he was going to come to see me early in the season."
Kight doesn't have a scholarship offer from Auburn, but notes he is hoping for one. "I have offers from Boston College, Oklahoma State, Miami of Ohio, UConn, Indiana, Central Florida, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan."
Joel Kight is shown at the Georgia Dome at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine.
Kight says he is interested in Auburn's offense, which he says looks like a "fun system" and notes that his high school is making a change and will run something similar this year.
Kight says he likes both offense and defense. He obviously likes school, too, as he reports a 3.8 grade point average. "I am interested in doing something with business or sports medicine in college," he says.
