Tigers In The Lead For Talented Backer

One of the top linebacker prospects in Georgia talks about his recent visits to Auburn and Alabama plus highlight videos are featured.

Atlanta, Ga.--One of a large group of talented linebackers took an unofficial visit to Auburn on Tuesday and came away impressed by what he saw of the Tiger program.

Jonathan Atchison from Douglass High is a 6-3 1/2, 212-pounder with good speed who currently holds almost two dozen offers and at the moment favors two out of state schools with one slightly ahead as he prepares for his senior season.

"I have kind of narrowed it down to Auburn and Alabama," Atchison tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I am kind of blessed to be recruited by all these schools. I would say Auburn would be at the top right now. I'm not going to wait too long. It could be in the next few weeks, probably after school starts."

Coming to Auburn along with his mother and a family friend, Atchison had a chance to take the grand tour and check out the facilities for football as well as the academic side of things. He says that was the best part of things for him because it gave him a chance to see what life would be like if he chose Auburn.

"It went real nice," Atchinson says. "I got to see more aspects of Auburn and what they had to offer as far as academics. I got to talk to some advisors and see some classrooms. Basically I got to see everything other than dealing with football. Coming back to football I got to walk on the field and see the locker room where the players and coaches get dressed.

"I got to talk to Coach (Tommy) Tuberville for about 30 or 35 minutes," he adds. "It was a real nice conversation. He told me and my family about everything Auburn had to offer. I got to meet with Coach (James) Willis and we hit it off. My mom really liked him. That was a good deal. She said he kind of sold her. That was real nice."

Having already visited Clemson, Central Florida and Kentucky before this week, Atchison took a trip to Tuscaloosa on Monday to check out Alabama's program. He notes that visit also went very well and it gave him a chance after Tuesday to compare his top two programs.

"I went down there for junior day and basically I saw the same thing yesterday," Atchison says. "I saw where the players are and I talked to Coach (Nick) Saban for about 30 minutes. He told me what Alabama had to offer. It was a real good visit."

A dominating defender who could play any of the three linebacker positions on the next level because of his blend of size and speed (personal best time of 4.54 in the 40-yard dash), Atchison made 110 tackles and added 12 sacks as a junior. He also added 14 catches for 370 yards and five touchdowns as well from his wide receiver position.
