Fortner's Tigers Add Another Commitment

Coach Nell Fortner's Tigers landed a big verbal commitment for 2009.

LaGrange, Ga.--The Auburn women's basketball team has picked up a verbal commitment from six-foot-seven center Pascale "P.J." West from Troup County High School.

West, who tells Inside the Auburn Tigers that she picked Coach Nell Fortner's team over Georgia and Georgia Tech, began her senior year classes on Thursday and plans to sign with the Tigers in the early signing period in November.

Pascale West towers over many of the opponents she faces.

"I like the coaches and the players at Auburn," West says. "I feel comfortable there. They feel like a family."

A standout at a summer AU basketball camp, West is the daughter of former NBA player Wally West. She says she isn't certain of her junior year statistics, but notes she averaged "around 10 points and 10 rebounds per game and a bunch of blocked shots."

West is also known for her defensive skills. She joins her AAU teammate on the Georgia Blazers, 5-10 guard Nicolle Thomas of Moultrie, Ga., as a verbal commitment to Auburn for the 2009 class. Auburn also has a verbal commitment from 6-3 forward Blanche Alverson from Buford, Ga., High.
