*Defensive lineman Zach Clayton had perhaps his best day of practice of the preseason as he returned to practice after being out with an eye injury.
*Junior defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Mark had a big hit on receiver Mario Fannin on a screen pass in the 11 on 11 work. Fannin, who had shoulder surgery early this year, bounced up quickly and said he was fine.
*Sophomore Tim Hawthorne continues to have a good preseason with a variety of nice catches today. After practice the former Homewood High star noted he is excited about how the offense is developing.
*Bart Eddins had a good day at offensive tackle where he is getting plenty of work this week.
*Offensive coordinator Tony Franklin is a stickler for detail and spent much of Friday's practice working with the wide receivers on specific parts of the routes near the goal line. Auburn's offense spends a great deal of time working on red zone plays and that could be a strong point for the offense this fall.
*In the one-on-one drills and team drills both Walter McFadden and Jerraud Powers had good days. McFadden had one of the plays of the day as he went up high and knocked away a Burns pass intended for tight Tommy Trott.
*A player who has dominated pass rushing drills this preseason is Antoine Carter. He has virtually been unblockable for Auburn's offensive line during the one-on-one drills. The last player to have a preseason like this as a pass rusher was Reggie Torbor.
*Wide receiver Chris Slaughter has made a large number of impressive catches this week. He had several big plays on Friday including one in which he caught a pass over the middle, dropped the ball, and picked it up on once bounce to continue running. Don't be surprised if he's not a guy that gets a strong look returning punts as well. His burst through the hole is as good as anyone on the team.
