Part 6, Auburn Football Scrimmage Notes

More news and notes are featured as Tommy Tuberville's Tigers scrimmaged for the first time this preseason.

Auburn, Ala.--More details on Auburn's first preseason football scrimmage are featured.

*The format of the scrimmage allowed the offense to put together drives, but there was no punting on fourth downs. All of the punting work was done prior to the scrimmage, which was officiated by a crew from the Southeastern Conference.

*Tez Doolittle, who missed the entire 2007 season with an Achilles injury suffered in August, saw action in Saturday's scrimmage at noseguard. Doolittle, who started preseason drills with a hamstring problem, is still working to get back to his old form prior to last year's injury, but is showing signs he could help the Tigers as a sixth-year senior.

*Redshirt freshman Quindarius Carr came into Auburn with good speed. Now the wide receiver is showing he can break tackles, make tacklers miss and make good yardage after catches, something he displayed at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday.

Walk-on running back Anthony Jemison carries the football in Saturday's scrimmage. He is the older brother of AU scholarship freshman safety Marcus Jemison, who missed the scrimmage due to a leg injury suffered in Friday's practice.

*Tony Franklin's offensive system will call on the quarterback to run the football eight to 10 times per game. Barrett Trotter showed he is a natural doing that after getting plenty of experience running the same offense at Briarwood Christian. The true freshman had multiple runs for more than 10 yards in the scrimmage.

*Redshirt freshman John Douglas, who lines up as a slot receiver and fullback, saw extensive playing time in the scrimmage, a contrast to the spring scrimmages.

*Senior wide receiver Robert Dunn, who seems to have adapted nicely to the new offense, caught a long pass in the scrimmage and has been productive throughout the first week of practice.

*Sophomore offensive tackle Lee Ziemba, who missed practice time in week one with an knee problem, saw extensive action in the scrimmage.
