Auburn Senior Looking for Big Finish

Robert Dunn will handle several roles for the 2008 football Tigers.

Auburn, Ala.--An old Tiger says he has been glad to learn some new tricks as he prepares for his final season of college football.

Senior wide receiver Robert Dunn tells Inside the Auburn Tigers that he is a fan of the new offense the Tigers have installed under the direction of coordinator Tony Franklin.

"Coach Franklin likes the way I play and I like the way he calls the plays," Dunn says. The senior notes that the system will spread the ball around to a wide variety of players, which he says should lead to more points in 2008.

"I think we have improved a whole lot since the spring," Dunn says, noting the timing between the receivers and the quarterbacks has improved as has the team's ability to run screens and swing passes. Dunn enters his senior season with just 26 receptions for 292 yards and two touchdowns. He caught 19 of those passes last season. Admitting he has underachieved in his first three college seasons, the senior says he believes this will be his breakout year.

Dunn is expected to hold on to his role as the number one punt returner. He averaged 9.4 yards on 32 returns last year and came close to taking one the distance on several occasions. "I am really looking forward to that role," he says, adding that he has a major goal is to take one the distance for a touchdown, something he hasn't been able to do since high school.

The senior has been working against Auburn's young defensive backs in summer voluntary workouts and in formal practices the past two weeks. He notes the freshman cornerbacks (D'Antoine Hood, Neiko Thorpe and Harry Adams have been getting extra instruction from projected starters Walt McFadden and Jerraud Powers and says he sees signs of significant improved since the freshmen arrived on campus.

Dunn and the Tigers open the season on August 30th at Louisiana-Monroe, a team that defeated Alabama in Tuscaloosa last year, makes an appearance at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
