Sprinter Runs AU Medal Count to 19

Auburn athletes continued their success at the Summer Olympics on Saturday.

Beijing, China--Former Auburn star Avard Moncur of The Bahamas earned a silver medal in the men's 4x400-meter relay on Saturday at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Moncur did not run in the finals, but did compete in Friday's qualifying race which qualifies him for a medal. The Bahamas posted a time of 2:58.03 in the finals. The Bahamian team had a time of 2:59.88 in the prelims.

Moncur lettered for the Tigers from 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Another former Auburn runner, Sanjay Ayre, ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay finals for Jamaica on Saturday, but his team finished eighth 3:01.45.

The five medals earned by former Auburn track and field athletes are the most in school history. The previous high was one. Overall, competitors from AU earned 19 medals.
