Part 2, Sunday Auburn Football Practice Notes

More Auburn football notes are featured from Sunday evening's practice.

More notes from Auburn's Sunday football practice:

*Offensive coordinator Tony Franklin said after practice the quarterback race is still even and he hasn't decided who will start. Franklin said expect both to play and they will continue to compete throughout the week.

*Defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads said we can expect to see Gabe McKenzie playing at strongside defensive end where he is running number two ahead of Raven Gray. Gray is still a long way from full speed, Tommy Tuberville says.

*McKenzie said he expects to play in the opener and is excited about playing defense for the first time since a state playoff game his senior year at Davidson High against Prattville.

*Rhoads said there is a good chance that true freshmen cornerbacks D'Antoine Hood and Neiko Thorpe will see playing time. The same is true of Christian Thompson, who has moved into the number two spot at strong safety ahead of walk-on Jonathan Vickers.

*Senior linebacker Chris Evans said he thought the Tigers had a good defensive practice on Sunday. Rhoads agree and said the defense has improved significantly since the start of preseason drills, but still has plenty of work to do, particularly the young guys in the secondary.
