Auburn, Ala.--News and notes from Auburn's Tuesday football practice are featured:

*The Tigers received a break from the rainy, windy weather of the past three days and worked about 90 minutes in shorts installing the game plan on Tuesday.

*Quarterback Chris Todd says the offense looks ready to play. He notes that offensive coordinator Tony Franklin was correcting players for anything in the game plan that wasn't done perfectly, but overall it was a good execution the QB pointed out. "We are ready to play a game," he says, noting that he believes that Franklin is generally pleased with the offense, which Todd says has improved significantly since the start of preseason.

Chris Todd is a juco transfer who joined the team in January with two years of eligibility.

*Todd says he still doesn't know who is going to be the starter or when he will find out. He says that he believes he has done enough in practice to win the job. Kodi Burns, the other player in the running for the starting job at QB, said almost the exact same thing after practice on Tuesday. Burns notes he isn't sure when a starter will be named and says he wish he already knew, but adds that isn't his decision.

*Tommy Tuberville notes that juco transfer Raven Gray will redshirt because he hasn't regained his quickness and mobility following offseason knee surgery. *The Tigers worked the scout teams and have just two practices left until the first game. The Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning practices are expected to be light ones with Coach Tommy Tuberville saying he wants to make sure his players have fresh legs for the opener.

*Antonio Coleman is fired up about the defense. "We had a great practice today," the junior defensive end says. "In fact, it is probably one of the best practices we have had since I have been here."

*Coleman says that Gabe McKenzie, the new strongside defensive end, continues to make progress in practice and should be ready to help the team Saturday night. McKenzie made a move last week from tight end to defense.

*McKenzie is running second team at strongside defensive end behind another player who moved from tight end, redshirt sophomore Michael Goggans, a player who won praise on Tuesday from the head coach.

*Tuberville says that freshman Eric Smith continues to have a strong preseason and will be ready for action at running back in the opener.

*Fifth-year senior James Swinton has not had a big impact since arriving at Auburn, but he has followed up his best spring with his best preseason, the head coach notes. He is running first team going into Saturday's 6 p.m. kickoff vs. Louisiana-Monroe.
