Funeral Set for Former Auburn Star

Carboro, N.C.--Funeral services are scheduled on Friday for Rosalind Council, one of the top track and field athletes in Auburn University histor

Known by her maiden name as Rosalind Pendergraft while competing for the Tigers, she passed away on Monday at the age of 43 in her hometown of Carboro.

A four-year letter-winner from 1984-87, she was Auburn's first female NCAA champion in track and field, taking titles indoors in the 55-meter hurdles and outdoors in the 100-meter hurdles.

Her 55 time of 7.53 is the second fastest on the AU all-time Top 10 list and her 100-meter hurdles time of 13.03 is ranked fourth in school history.

The funeral will take place Friday at 1:30 p.m. EDT at First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, N.C. Arrangements were made by Fisher Funeral Parlor in Durham.
