AU Officials, Tuberville Discuss Football

Auburn, Ala.--Following a disappointing 5-7 season Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville met with university president Jay Gogue and athletic director Jay Jacobs.

Monday night Auburn sports information media relations director Kirk Sampson issued this statement:

"President Gogue, Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville did meet Monday to have their annual end of the season meeting. Further conversations between Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville will take place in the following days to discuss Coach Tuberville's plan to make improvements for the program moving forward under his leadership."

Tuberville and Jacobs are meeting on Tuesday to continue their discussions. The coach says after his meetings he plans to join his assistant coaches on the road for in-home recruiting visits with 2009 prospects.

Tuberville said on Sunday that he also plans to do interviews for the vacant offensive coordinator position in December and expects to have a new coordinator in place in January.

Tuberville, who wrapped up his 10th season with the Tigers with a 36-0 loss to No. 1 ranked Alabama, has a 85-40 record with the Tigers. Saturday's game marked the end of Auburn's school-record six-game winning streak vs. its archrival and dropped Tuberville's AU mark vs. the Tide to 7-3.

Saturday's loss kept the Tigers from becoming bowl eligible and ends a streak of eight consecutive bowl trips, the second longest in school history, one behind the streak from 1982-1990.
