Recruit Doesn't Know About Chizik

An Auburn football recruit comments on where he stands with the Tigers and new coach Gene Chizik.

Meadville, three-star recruit Jamie Collins, who committed to the Tigers last summer, said he doesn't know where he is headed to play his college football.

"I am not committed to Auburn any more," said Collins, who noted that he wanted to play for Coach Tommy Tuberville's coaching staff.

Asked if Auburn is out of the picture, he said, "No, I wouldn't say that. I am still considering Auburn and I am looking at Southern Miss right now."

The 6-3, 210-pounder, a versatile athlete who played quarterback, was recruited to play linebacker at Auburn by Tuberville's coaching staff.

Collins said on Sunday afternoon that he has not heard anything recently from Auburn coaches. "I expect to hear something before long," he said.

Asked his opinion of Gene Chizik, who was announced on Saturday as new head coach of the Tigers, he said, "I really don't have an opinion. I don't know anything about him. I didn't even know who he was."

Chizik is returning to Auburn after serving the past two seasons as head coach at Iowa State. He was defensive coordinator at Auburn from 2002-2004.
