Evans Talks About Chizik Hire

Auburn linebacker commitment Jonathan Evans talks about the hire of Gene Chizik and what that means to him.

Mobile, Ala.--While many of the recruits that Auburn is pursuing and currently holding commitments from aren't sure what the name Gene Chizik means for the Tigers just yet, one player that knows more than most is Blount linebacker and commitment Jonathan Evans.

The younger brother of Auburn senior linebacker Chris Evans, he saw his brother recruited by the Tigers while Chizik was the defensive coordinator. He notes that while he doesn't know a great deal about the man who will be his coach, he remembers one important detail.

"I don't really know too much about him," Evans tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I just know he was the defensive coordinator in the 2004 season when they went undefeated. That's about all I know.

"I'll have a chance to talk to my brother about him," he adds. "I haven't done that yet though."

A solid commitment to the Tigers although he says he may take visits to Oklahoma State and Clemson, Evans says everything else he needs to know about his coach will happen soon enough.

"I'm just ready to get up there and get a chance to meet him," Evans says. "I'm still committed, but my options are still open to other schools.

"I haven't set up any official visits yet, but next month I'm going to visit Oklahoma State. That's the only one right now so far."

The hiring of Chizik caps a whirlwind week for Evans after he played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game on Saturday. Winning the game 28-3, Evans says the week was a great one for him and his teammates.

"It was a really good experience to play with a group of guys like I was around," Evans says. "They were really great. I had a good game. I had about 10 tackles. It was a great experience."

Evans says he plans to set up his official visit to Auburn in the coming weeks after talking with the new staff.
