Ford Waiting to Meet With New Coach

An update on four-star Auburn commitment Dee Ford is featured.

Odenville, Ala.—St. Clair County defensive end Dee Ford hasn't met with Gene Chizik or any three of the assistants on the road helping to recruit, but Ford is expecting to meet with Chizik on Friday.

Ford spoke with Chizik long enough to arrange the visit and is eager to find out what the new coach has to say. The last prior contact Ford had with Auburn was with Terry Price last Tuesday.

"I'm still with Auburn," Ford explains. "(Price was) saying that they're going to honor my commitment so I'm going to stay with Auburn. I like the school and everything so I'm going to stay with Auburn."

Ford says he knows about Chizik and his reputation as an outstanding defensive coach.

"I knew he was," the defensive end explains, "but I didn't know too much about him at first. He's a defensive man so I know that's a good choice. I know he was the coordinator in '04 when they went undefeated. He's a defensive guy and he's a good guy."

Ford may take other visits, but as of now he is only planning on visiting Auburn. He says he'll line it up "when I talk to a new coach. I've got to see when they want me to come in.

"My mind is set on Auburn," Ford adds. "I've got to have a second opinion just in case. It's just a wait and see thing. When I talk to Chizik or (Jimmy) Perry or anybody new then I don't think I'll take any other official visits."
