Lebo's Tigers to Face Hornets On Monday Night

Alabama State will visit Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum for a basketball matchup with the Tigers.

Auburn, Ala.--After traveling home from their road win vs. Virginia, Jeff Lebo's Tigers have a quick turnaround to handle as they take on the Alabama State Hornets on Monday at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. as the 6-4 Tigers look to run their all-time record to 4-0 vs. the Hornets, who come into the contest with a 2-6 mark, but two close calls in previous matchups vs. SEC teams this season.

Alabama State lost 76-67 at Mississippi State on Dec. 6th and on Dec. 15th the Hornets fell 85-81 at Ole Miss.

Lebo says the Hornets have played good basketball this season despite the record. Alabama State comes into the contest following a 73-64 victory over AUM on Friday night.

Auburn edged Virginia 58-56 in Charlottesville on Saturday as junior guard DeWayne Reed hit the winning basket, a three-point shot, and then preserved the victory by blocking a UVA three-point attempt with 2.1 seconds left.

Reed is averaging 11.8 points and 4.0 assists per game, which ties him for second on the team in scoring with junior guard Tay Waller.

Korvotney Barber leads Auburn in scoring at 13.6 points and in rebounding at 7.0 per contest.

Last season in a 63-60 Auburn victory at ASU's homecourt in Montgomery, Barber led the Tigers with a career-high 22 points while Matt Heramb had a career-high 17 points. Heramb has since transferred to Kennesaw State in search of more playing time.

Andrew Hayles, a 6-5, 190 senior guard from Mobile, leads the Hornets in scoring along with Brandon Brooks, a 6-2, 180 senior guard. Both average 12.8 points per game. Hayles is the brother of former Tiger Daniel Hayles.

Alabama State features a seven-foot center, Chief Kickingstallionsims, a senior who is averaging 7.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per contest.

The Tigers are expected to have freshman guard Frankie Sullivan back for duty. Averaging 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists as a reserve, he missed the Virginia game because he was attending a funeral. Brendon Knox, has missed the last two games due to an illness. He is expected to be back in action following the Christmas break.
