All-Star Performance A Confidence Builder

An Auburn football recruiting report is featured on a prospect who will take his official visit to AU this week.

Lovejoy, Ga.--One of the football players who performed well in the Offense-Defense Bowl in Myrtle Beach, S.C., last weekend is Auburn verbal commitment Andre Harris.

The big lineman played on the winning East squad, which took a 29-3 victory in the contest that featured talented high school football prospects from around the country.

"The game went pretty good," Harris tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I met a lot of new people. I think I played pretty well. I think I played up to the competition."

Asked if it helped him to practice and play against so many talented players, Harris says, "Yes it helped because it was not the same competition as regular high school players. It is going to be the same thing on the next level. The guys you play against in college were the best players on their high school teams just like the guys in the all-star game were."

He notes that a good bit of preparation went into playing the game. "We had two-a-days so we were working double time to make sure we had all of our plays and everything together," he says. "I thought we played pretty well."

Does standing out as one of the better performers in the game help his confidence as he prepares for college football at Auburn. "I think it will," he says. "Going against the top players in country and being able to stick with them, or beat them on a regular basis, makes you feel pretty good."

He lined up next to another Auburn verbal commitment, Lassiter High tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen, who caught a touchdown pass and played well all week in practice and in the game. "He is a real good player," Harris says. "He has great hands and he is quick off the ball as far as blocking goes and he runs his routes very well."

Harris, a 6-4, 295-pounder who has dropped weight in recent months to improve his quickness, is currently training for his wrestling season. This weekend he will be in Auburn for his official recruiting visit to check out the new AU coaching staff. "I am looking forward to the visit," says Harris, who adds that he is still firmly committed to the Tigers despite the coaching staff changes.
