Talented Small School Star To Visit AU

This talented two-way performer in high school will take an official visit to Auburn this weekend.

Brantley, Ala.--One of the top athletes in Alabama for the 2009 class is taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend to check out the Tigers. Speedy Anthony Gulley has been a standout for the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball for coach David Lowery and he says this weekend Gulley is heading to Auburn.

"That's correct," Lowery says. "He's going to Auburn this weekend. He brings a little bit of everything to the table as a player, offense, defense and special teams. He played all of it. He's got great speed. He was a great punt returner and kick returner. He played defensive back for us as well. He also played running back and wide receiver. Pretty much wherever we put him."

Being recruited by the Tigers as well as the Troy Trojans as an offensive player, likely a wide receiver, the 5-11, 185 Gulley has 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash according to Lowery and likely would have garnered more offers, but his coach said he wanted to keep things simple and quiet.

"Auburn and Troy have offered him," Lowery said. "Those are the two that have offered him. We didn't send out a lot of film to many places actually. That's kind of what he wanted to do."

This season Gulley had a huge year as he helped Brantley to a perfect regular season before losing to eventual champ Sweet Water in the playoffs. He scored 31 total touchdowns with 1,200 rushing yards and 600 receiving yards. He added two kickoff returns for touchdowns and three punt returns for scores. He also added over 50 tackles and three interceptions on defense.
