Willis Hire Big News For Big Linebacker

Linebacker Petey Smith discusses James Willis moving from Auburn to Alabama and what it means for him.

Seffner, Fla.--With the announcement on Wednesday that James Willis was moving from Auburn to Alabama to coach linebackers, a big target for both teams at the position says that he's now done with recruiting and will commit in the coming days.

"I'm not going to Auburn this weekend," Petey Smith says of his expected visit to the Plains on Friday. "It's Alabama all the way. I'm going to commit pretty soon coming up.

"I just love that it's a family-oriented school," he adds. "Everybody works together. Everybody has one goal and everybody is on the same page."

Down to Auburn and Alabama for his final two choices, Smith says that the defection of Willis to the Crimson Tide was a big part of the reason why he's decided to eliminate the Tigers.

"I think it's a good move," Smith says. "I think they got the best guy for the job.

"I played a big factor, but in the end Alabama was just the better school for me when it comes down to it."

An extra added bonus for Smith will be getting the chance to play against his older brother. That's because Eric Smith is a true freshman running back at Auburn and played last season for the Tigers. Smith notes that while he would have liked to have played on the same team with him again, matching up head to head has its perks as well.

"I think it will be fun," Smith says. "We'll go against each other for the first time. It should be pretty fun."

Smith plans to formally announce his decision on Jan. 31 at a local restaurant in Seffner.
