"I'm very excited about the visit," Lanier tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I have been there before, but now I'm being recruited by them. It's a very exciting time for me."
Since his commitment Lanier says he's spoken with Auburn's Phillip Lolley several times. Most recently it was this week with Lolley in to check on Lanier's grades.
"He was here to make sure everything was good with the clearinghouse so I could take my visit," Lanier says. "I just had to have everything in so I would be able to come down there."
Part of the reason for Lanier's excitement is because of his improvement in the classroom. Struggling in that area for most of the early part of his high school career, Lanier says he's taking care of business now and is having fun doing well.
"My grades are getting to what they should have been a couple of years ago," he adds. "I'm doing a lot better. I'm very confident that I'm going to make it. It was a point of I could have done it, but I was just being lazy. I feel very confident now I'm going to make it."
On his last visit to Auburn in April for a Scout.com Elite Camp, Lanier says he got a feel for some of what to expect, but he's looking forward to the full treatment for his visit weekend.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the atmosphere," Lanier says. "I just want to see how everything is."
Lanier notes he plans to visit Mississippi State next weekend, but he says he remains firmly committed to Auburn.
In addition to Lanier, there will be other prospects in for official visits to Auburn. Check out who else will be on the Plains:
