Following a visit with teammate Aubrey Phillips, Bates says that things could not have gone any better for him on the weekend.
"It went great," Bates tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "The facilities are more than I expected. They pride on being a family and I saw what that means. All of the players I went out with showed me a good time. We talked and bonded. I'm ready to just go down and be a part of it.
"It was great seeing where I'm going to be for the next three or four or five years," Bates adds. "Talking with coach Chizik and coach (Ted) Roof and all of them just made it even better."
Hosted by Auburn linebacker Craig Stevens, the 5-11, 195-pounder says that he enjoyed spending time with the players on the team, but his favorite part of the visit came Saturday night.
"It was cool walking on the field," Bates says. "Just seeing how it would be on a game day, even though there wasn't a crowd. Everything was real good. It was a perfect 10."
With his decision already made, Bates notes he'll now work on his teammate to try to get a pair of Olive Branch players to Auburn next fall.
"I have been trying to work on him," Bates says. "Everybody has been telling me to get him to come. Hopefully he will so we can be roommates and play together."
