Q&A With Craig Sanders

Craig Sanders of Ariton, Ala., High School is one of the state's top recruits for the class of 2010. He plays tailback, tight end, defensive end and linebacker in high school.

Which schools are you hearing from the most right now?
Sanders:
Probably Alabama, Auburn and Florida.

Which coach from Auburn is recruiting you?
Sanders:
Coach (Jeff) Grimes just got in and he's recruiting me.

What has he been saying to you?
Sanders:
We've just been talking on the phone. Junior day is this coming up Saturday and I'm coming up there.

March 7th?
Sanders:
Yes sir.

Have you been to Auburn before.
Sanders:
Yes, I have. We've been up there a bunch of times. We went up there for a football game and a couple of other things.

Have you had a chance this spring to go to other campuses for junior days?
Sanders:
I was supposed to go Alabama, but we had a baseball game. I wasn't able to make it. Auburn will be the first one.

What do you like about Auburn right now?
Sanders:
They've got a new coaching staff, so they'll probably have a good coaching staff. I hope. That's it right now.

What position is Auburn recruiting you for?
Sanders:
They don't know yet. Just an athlete right now. Auburn said they might recruit me for offense too, but they just don't know yet. I think Florida was looking at me for offense.

Which side of the ball would you like to play?
Sanders:
I like both. They're both good. I just want to be on the field.

The last I heard you had eight offers (LSU, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Vanderbilt and Stanford). How many do you have now?
Sanders:
Ten. Tennessee and Ole Miss are the last two.

I've heard that Florida and Alabama may be your early leaders. Is that the case?
Sanders:
I'm open. It's not like that. I'm open.

What are you going to be looking for in a school?
Sanders:
Education and playing time.

Do you know what you want to major in?
Sanders:
Criminal justice.

There's a long way until signing day for you. Do you think you may go ahead and try to get it out of the way early or do you think you might wait a while?
Sanders:
I am. I'm going to try by this summer to do it.

Do you have any camps or combines lined up for this summer?
Sanders:
No sir, I haven't done that yet.

What's your current height and weight?
Sanders:
6-4, 240.

How is baseball going for you?
Sanders:
I just run bases (laughs). I play a little center field and run bases. That's it.
