Auburn Baseball Has Successful Week

Auburn heads into the second week of the SEC schedule with a 13-5 record after winning two of three at Tennessee.

Auburn, Ala.--A 4-1 week has the Auburn Tigers riding high after two wins over Tennessee in the first SEC series of the year has the team over .500 in the conference after the first weekend for the first time in six years. Throw in a victory Alabama Tuesday night and a win against Western Kentucky on Wednesday and Auburn finds itself 13-5 overall on the season.

The story continues to be the offensive production from the Tigers and particularly the long ball. For the year Auburn has hit 39 home runs trailing only New Mexico State in the country. In fact of Auburn's 181 hits this season, 88 have been for extra-base hits. Auburn has seven players with at least three home runs this season, matching the total from all of last season.

Offensive Player of the Week: The honor goes to leadoff man Trent Mummey just ahead of senior right fielder Ben Jones. Jones had two three-hit games for the Tigers, but Mummey was 8-15 for the week with two home runs and six runs scored. For the season Mummey is hitting .435 with eight home runs and 18 RBI. He has scored a national-best 32 runs in 18 games.

Honorable mention goes to freshman Zach Blatt for his two shutout innings over Alabama on Tuesday, picking up his first career win.
