SEC Baseball Standings Week 4

Auburn, Ala.--Two big comebacks allowed the Auburn Tigers to take two of three at Mississippi State over the weekend and improve to 6-6 in conference play and 20-10 overall.

Winning 9-8 on Friday night and 12-10 on Sunday, the Tigers won their third SEC series in four tries on the year, matching the total for the entire 2008 season.

In Friday night's game, the Tigers trailed 8-2 before scoring six runs in the ninth inning to take the victory. It was Auburn's first Friday night win in Starkville since 1995. Sunday's win was almost as dramatic as the Tigers again trailed 8-2 before hitting four home runs in the fifth and scoring five runs. Tony Caldwell's second homer of the day and a three-run eighth gave the Tigers the runs they would need to secure the victory and series win.

Offensive Player of the Week: This week the honor is shared by Caldwell and junior third baseman Joseph Sanders. One of Auburn's hottest hitters going into the weekend, hitting .579 with a home run, six RBI and seven runs scoring in the five games leading up to the series, Caldwell continued his onslaught with a 5-12 weekend, two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a double.

Not to be outdone, Sanders continued his power surge as he added two home runs in three days to give him 13 for the season after hitting just six as a sophomore. His five RBI push his season total to 42 in just 30 games, just 10 away from his team-leading total last season in 76 less at-bats.

Auburn's six home runs on the weekend pushed the season total to 64, which is six more than the team hit all of last season. The total is good enough for third in Auburn history, 23 short of the 87 in 1998.

Pitcher of the Week: Again the honor is shared as relievers Austin Hubbard and Bradley Hendrix were instrumental in the two victories. On Friday night Hubbard came on in the ninth and gave up just one hit in the inning to earn the save. Sunday, Hendrix pitched the final four innings, allowing just one run on two hits to pick up his fifth consecutive victory.
