Davin Hawkins from Etowah is a 6-2, 215 safety who is getting attention from a variety of colleges, but says at the moment he likes the Auburn Tigers.
"It went real well," Hawkins tells Inside The Auburn Tigers commenting on his visit to check out Coach Gene Chizik's team. "I met with all the coaches. I like everybody there. It's all down to Earth. Plus it's Auburn, right down the street from my house.
"It puts Auburn above everybody that I can jump in the car anytime I want and the coaching staff will be waiting on me," he adds. "They like me real well down there so that puts them above everybody."
Coming back from a knee injury that sidelined him during his junior season, Hawkins says at the moment he's about 85 percent. He notes that he has to show teams he's full speed and ready to go when the Blue Devils get into spring practice later this month.
"I'm looking at Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia, Florida State, Southern Miss, UCLA and Clemson," Hawkins says. "I haven't gotten any offers yet because of my knee. They are all just waiting to see when I come back."
"He's a great guy," Hawkins says. "He can be your best friend, but he's still a coach. He can get the job done. He's probably the best coach for that position."
Very familiar with Auburn after making several trips the last few years to the Plains, Hawkins says it was good for him to get to see the Tigers practice over the weekend. Getting to know the new assistant coaches and defensive scheme, Hawkins says what he saw fits his game.
"I wanted to see how the safeties played," Hawkins says. "How do they play in the defense? I like they way they use their defensive backs. They bring them on blitzes and they like for them to hit people and they like for them to cover. I like to work in space."
