"I got to really know the coaches," the junior from Banneker High says. "They showed me their scheme and I learned about the tradition and all of those things. There were so many people the first time I came I wasn't able to spend as much time with the coaches as I did on Thursday."
"I have a really good feeling about Auburn," he says. "I have Auburn at the top of my list."
McNeal attended the practice with three of his Banneker High teammates including his brother, Demarco McNeil, along with Auburn verbal commitment Shaun Kitchens and Tres Houston. The quartet took advantage of their spring break to make the drive to Auburn.
Kitchens says each of those Banneker juniors are talented athletes and they are being recruited by Ted Roof, who is Auburn's defensive coordinator. He committed to the Tigers last Saturday on a visit to watch Auburn scrimmage. "I am really happy about my decision," he says.
Demetruce McNeal says his scholarship offer from the Tigers is a recent one. "Auburn offered me about two weeks ago and I almost committed on the spot, but I decided I better take my time and make sure it is the right decision for me," he says.
Commenting on watching Auburn's practice, McNeal says, "I like the tempo, I like what the coaches do in practice--how they treat the players and how it is set up. It is way different than high school. I like the way the players have fun in practice."
