Tigers Get Second Look From Talented LB

Auburn is looking for linebacker help in the 2010 class and this player is one of the best.

Troy, Ala.--One of the top linebackers in Alabama took an unofficial visit to Auburn on Saturday to watch the Tigers' second scrimmage of spring practice.

Athletic Jawara White from Charles Henderson says he just wanted to get a second look at Coach Gene Chizik's program with his visit.

"It went pretty good," White tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I just went to the scrimmage for a while. I met up with Zac (Zac Etheridge) and spent a little time with him. Then I went back to Troy."

Etheridge is a former star player at White's high school who is expected to be a key player for the 2009 Auburn team.

Playing linebacker and wide receiver for the Trojans, the 6-2, 220 White has the ability to be a playmaker on both sides of the football. Being recruited as a linebacker, he notes it was his other position that stood out to him on Saturday.

"I liked the receivers," White says. "They looked very confident running their routes."

Being recruited for the Tigers by offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, White says he's getting a better feeling not only for Grimes, but the entire staff by visiting the campus.

"I like Coach Grimes," White says. "He's pretty cool. They are pretty cool. They are hands on. I would say from the coaches I know, they are more hands on."

Currently holding offers from Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Troy, White says he recently added to his list with scholarship offers coming from Arkansas and Florida State. With plenty of available options and a growing list, White notes that he is in no hurry to make a decision and is looking for some specific things out of a school

"I'm taking my time," he says. "I'm not rushing into anything. I don't have a list of favorites, they are all in there.

"I'm looking to see how the players react when the coaches are not around," he adds. "Playing time is also something I'll look at, but what I mainly want to see is how the players react to the coaches and how well they get along."

Because of a busy schedule running track this spring, White says the only school he has visited is Auburn on his two trips to the campus. The easy distance to and from his house to Auburn is one of the big reasons why he's been able to get to Auburn. The second is because of former Charles Henderson High teammate Etheridge. While he could lean on him for support, White says Auburn won't get any special treatment because his old friend plays for the Tigers.

"Me and Zac are going to be cool and we're going to be tight," White says. "We don't really talk about my decision or anything."

A sprinter and the anchor leg of the 4x100 relay team for the Trojans, White says his best 100 meter time this season is 10.86 seconds.
