Schepperle, Evans Win SEC Honors

Birmingham, Ala.--Auburn junior Candace Schepperle has been named SEC Women's Golfer of the Year and her coach, Kim Evans, is the 2009 SEC Coach of the Year.

The sixth-ranked Tigers won the SEC Championship over the weekend in Blytheville, S.C. The awards, which were voted on by the league's coaches, were announced on Thursday.

Evans won the coach of the year honor for the fourth time. She previously was honored in 1996, 2001 and 2002.

Schepperle is averaging an SEC-best 72.00 strokes per round, which ranks third nationally in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Ratings.

The junior from Birmingham has finished in the Top 10 individually in every tournament this season and was one of three collegiate golfers who played in the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Tournament this year. In 15 of her 27 competitive rounds this season for the Tigers, Schepperle has shot par or better.

Auburn sophomore Cydney Clanton joins Schepperle as a first team All-SEC selection, an honor she also won last season.
