Talented Wide Receiver Gets Good News

DeAngelo Benton has been cleared by the NCAA and is scheduled to begin school in the summer.

Bastrop, La.--The Auburn Tigers and one of their signees received some good news this week as talented wide receiver DeAngelo Benton was cleared to play this fall by the NCAA Clearinghouse and is scheduled to start summer school next month.

A signee with LSU both out of high school and after a year spent at Hargrave Military in Virginia, Benton has spent the last year working on his academics in order to get qualified for the 2009 season.

That work has paid off as Benton will now be ready to play this season for Auburn and is expected to have a chance to be an immediate contributor this season for an offense looking for playmakers.

A 6-2, 190-pounder, Benton was one of the top wide receiver prospects in the country coming out of Bastrop High. As a senior Benton finished the year with 1,037 receiving yards.

A three-year starter and an All-State player in high school, he caught five passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in his team's state championship victory over Breaux Bridge his junior year. He caught 41 passes for 805 yards and 11 touchdowns that season.
