Prattville quarterback adds No. 5
"I received an offer from Virginia," said Sam Gibson. "I didn't really know about it. I listened to coach Stewart [Prattville assistant coach] talk to someone about me receiving an offer from Virginia. I didn't know about it, but he said coach [Gregg] Brandon told him they were offering me."
"I then talked to coach Brandon yesterday on the phone. He told me I have an offer from Virginia. He said he likes the way I play and stuff like that. We didn't really talk too much."
Virginia's offensive coordinator visited the state of Alabama to catch a glimpse of the signal caller in action.
"Coach Brandon visited last week," Gibson said. "When I talked to him on the phone he was telling me that he liked me a lot. He said that I could fit in with their team. He talked about how they run the spread offense, and they want me as a quarterback."
"The academics at Virginia are top of the line. I haven't really checked it out, but the coaches I have talked to said they have one of the nicest campuses in the country. I am going to go up there during the summer."
Gibson has reeled in scholarship offers from Virginia, Vanderbilt, Stanford, South Alabama and UAB. He has seen several coaches during the spring evaluation period and expects the next offer to come from the SEC.
"We have had a bunch of coaches come out here," he said. "Georgia Tech came out to practice today. I have seen coaches from Clemson, Louisiana Tech, Furman, Auburn, LSU, Alabama and Memphis. That has been about it."
"I am still keeping an open mind. I don't have any favoritesr right now. I am waiting to see which other schools offer me. I believe that Auburn is going to be the next school to offer."
Gibson expects to travel from coast-to-coast during the summer months to attend camps.
"I am supposed to go out to a lot of places," he stated. "I know I am going to Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Virginia, Auburn, Alabama and Stanford. I will probably attend most of the camps." .
