AU Golfers Fall Short in NCAA Regional

Austin, Tex.--The season ended Saturday for a pair of Auburn golfers hoping to qualify as individuals for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship.

Sophomore Cole Moreland made a move on Saturday shooting a one-under-par 70 at the University of Texas Golf Course. However, he finished the three-day event at 10-over-par, two strokes from finishing in a three-way tie to qualify for the one spot available in the national tournament.

Moreland bounced back from an opening round 78 and a day two 75. On Saturday he finished his round with three birdies, 13 pars and two bogeys. Playing the back nine first, he turned at two-under-par. He dropped back to even par, but on his final hole had a birdie four.

Senior Glenn Northcutt was in better position to challenge for a trip to the NCAA Championship at the start of the round, but he had his worst day of the tournament shooting a 76 to finish the event at 12-over-par.

Northcutt had three bogeys on each side and wrapped up the day with his only birdie.

Auburn did not qualify for NCAA regional play as a team.
