AU Doubles Team Makes NCAA Semi-finals

College Station, Tex.--Senior Alexey Tsyrenov and sophomore Tim Puetz advanced to the doubles semi-finals of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday.

The Auburn team took a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Georgia team of Nate Schnugg and Jamie Hunt.

Puetz and Tsyrenov improved their record to 36-11 this season while the Georgia team dropped to 32-12.

The Tigers will take on the Tennessee team of Patrick Smith and Davey Sanddren in the semi-finals at noon on Sunday. The Auburn team is 2-0 this year vs. the UT pair taking 8-5 and 8-7 pro set wins in the regular season.

The Vols defeated Steve Forman and Cory Parr of Wake Forest 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 in the quarter-finals.

"Both Tim and Alexey didn't feel like they played too well in the first set," Auburn coach Eric Shore said. "We weren't serving as well today as we had been in the earlier rounds, but we figured that we would pick our game up so we stuck with it and things turned our way in the end."
