"It was something else," he tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I had a great time with the pie-eating contest and all of that. It was a great experience at Auburn once again."
He notes that the prospects were divided into groups for competition in ping pong, video games and other contests. Hughes says it was a good day to get to know the Auburn coaches better as well as some of the other recruits.
"Getting to Auburn and having a chance to talk to the football coaches when they are not all talking about football, when they are relaxed and having fun, it was good," he says.
Hughes says Auburn has been his favorite for a while with another SEC team making a move. "Vandy is pushing really hard," he says. "I really like Coach Caldwell who is recruiting me. He is a great man. Vandy is my only offer who has said I could play defense, too."
Hughes, who plays both ways at Springville High School, is likely to play on the offensive line at center in college.
"I am up to seven offers now," he says. "My newest one is from Air Force."
Hughes wrapped up his junior year earlier this week and says he finished with all A's again to keep his grade point average at 4.0. "I am an all A's student all of the time," he says.
Hughes notes he plans to take in a good number of football camps starting this week. "I am going to Tennessee on Monday, but other than that I am not sure what my schedule is."
He says he left Auburn feeling good about his visit with Gene Chizik's Tigers. "It was one of those really standout days," he says. "It was the first trip I have ever been to that was like this."
