Schepperle, Hage Start Well at U.S. Open

Bethlehem, Pa.--Auburn All-American golfer Candace Schepperle shot a two-over-par 73 on Thursday in the opening round of the U.S. Women's Open

Former Tiger Nicole Hage is one stroke back with her round of 73 on the Saucon Valley Country Club Old Course.

Schepperle, a rising senior from Hoover, was two-under-par after seven holes.

"I started off really good and had a lot of good chances at birdie in the beginning, but I got a bad break on one hole and had a double (number eight)," Schepperle says.

"I had some shots in the rough and had to make some up-and-downs from all over the place, but I made some good putts, got some saves and kept myself in it."

Hage will tee off at 8:01 a.m. CDT on Friday and Schepperle is scheduled to start at 11:41 a.m.
