Region A Prospect to Watch for '11 Class

Spencer Region, who will be a junior this fall, is a large in-state lineman.

Somerville, Ala.--Spencer Region, a visitor to Auburn's one-day football camp last Saturday, is a prospect with potential for the 2011 signee class.

A 6-6, 338-pound offensive lineman from A.P. Brewer High School, Region says, "I think the camp went pretty well. I learned a lot from Coach Grimes and everybody out there. I was just real happy to be out there and have a chance to compete and represent my high school."

Jeff Grimes is Auburn's new offensive line coach and he spent time watching and working with Region.

"There was a lot of good competition, but that is what you have to do to play in the SEC," Region says. "It is the best of the best. I felt like I had my own against them."

A player who lines up at tackle in high school, but projects as a guard at the college level, Region has shown the ability to knock opposing defensive linemen off the line of scrimmage. However, he notes that he is a work in progress.

"I am just a sophomore and I have to keep going," he says. "I turned heads, but I haven't made anything yet. I just have to keep working."

Spencer Region drills at a summer football camp.

The 16-year-old notes that he is definitely interested in Coach Gene Chizik's Tigers. "I love Auburn," he says. "I love the campus and they treat us well when we come down. I love everything about Auburn, the tradition and everything."

Region is already big so it will be interesting to see just how big he gets by the time he is ready to play college football. "I think I am going to grow some more," he says. "I would like to get up to six-foot-eight and slim down a little bit."
