Rowland Runs a Record Time in 100 Meters

Auburn track and field standout Marcus Rowland wins another major competition.

Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago--Marcus Rowland ran a time of 10.03 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Pan American Junior Championships.

He easily broke the meet record of 10.20 seconds in cruising to a victory over D'Angelo Cherry, who was second in a time of 10.17 seconds.

Rowland's time is the fastest ever wind-legal race run in juniors (ages 16-19) competition. He had a 0.7 meters per second tailwind in the race.

After being named SEC Freshman of the Year at Auburn, he qualified for the Pan American Junior Championships by winning the U.S. national title in a time of 10.02 in Eugene, Oregon, but that time didn't count as a record because of an excessive tailwind.
