In-State Prospect Enjoys Visit To Auburn

This two-sport standout talks about his official football recruiting visit to Auburn.

Fairhope, Ala.--Tight end Allen Whitney made the second of his planned four official recruiting visits to Auburn over the weekend and said he is impressed with what he saw.

"I liked the visit," Whitney said. He is working his visits around his basketball schedule. His team is 23-0 and currently ranked No. 1 in the state.

Whitney said one of his favorite parts of his weekend visit to Auburn was watching the Tigers defeat in-state rival Alabama 77-68 at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. "That was a good game," he said. "I liked it."

The six-foot-five, 245-pounder said he is well aware that Auburn is looking for tight ends in this signee class with only one scholarship tight end returning for the 2003 team. "That is something that I am aware of," he said.

Whitney visited Southern Miss last weekend and has trips planned to Louisville and Central Florida. "I am still undecided right now on my college," Whitney said. "I am still thinking about it."

Commenting on his Auburn visit, he said, "We went around and saw the academic areas. We toured the fields and facilities and got to meet the coaches and other players. It is really a good thing going on at Auburn. I really liked it. They are a top pick. I am really thinking about it."

Whitney was a four-year football starter. He played his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons at Alma Bryant High before transferring to Fairhope.
