Marquis Daniels is SEC Player of the Week

Auburn, Ala.--Senior Marquis Daniels of Auburn has been named the SEC Basketball Player of the Week following his performance in Auburn's 77-68 victory over Alabama on Saturday and a 67-60 road victory at South Carolina last Wednesday.

He scored 13 points (tied for a team high with three others) to go along with five rebounds and five assists in Auburn's victory over ninth-ranked Alabama, the Tigers' first win over a Top 10 team since 1995.

Daniels came up with two key steals in the game as the Tigers held Alabama to less than 40 percent shooting from the field. The victories gave the Tigers a two-game lead in the SEC's Western Division.

Earlier in the week, Daniels recorded a SEC-career best 31 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals as Auburn handed South Carolina its first-ever loss in the Carolina Center, 67-60.

Daniels huddles up with his team at the free throw line before an attempt by Lewis Monroe.

He made 3-of-5 three-pointers, 10-of-11 free throws and 9-of-17 shots from the field versus the Gamecocks. It was Auburn's first set of back-to-back SEC road wins since 1999.

Auburn returns to action at 6 p.m. CST on Wednesday when the Tigers face the Kentucky Wildcats at the Rupp Arena in Lexington. The game will be televised live by Fox Sports Net.
