Prospect Has Chance To Contribute Early

One of the players taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend might be able to see prime time action as a college freshman.

Brentwood, Tenn.--One of the verbal commitments who has a chance to be an immediate difference-maker for the 2003 Auburn football team is taking his official visit to Auburn this weekend.

John Vaughn, a 6-1, 170-pound kicker from Brentwood Academy, selected the Tigers in November while still working on his record-setting high school career. He is the all-time leader in Tennessee high school history in field goals made with 39 in his career. He had just five misses in high school games.

"I talked to Coach Nall (offensive coordinator Hugh Nall) and he told me that they are looking forward to having me in this weekend," says Vaughn, who has been training for the spring soccer season when the weather permits. "Coach Lolley (cornerbacks coach Phillip Lolley) also called, too." Lolley recruits the state of Tennessee for the Tigers.

Vaughn, who has never missed a kick of under 39 yards in a game, picked the Tigers over Ole Miss, Florida, Vandy, Kentucky, Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State University.
