Courtney Denson from Central High School picked the Tigers over Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Nebraska and other colleges. With a strong arm and speed of better than 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, he is one of the top athletes in talent-rich Dade County.
"They have a good football team and a good school," Denson says. "I know a couple of guys on the team so that helps. They are also closer to Florida than the other schools."
Earlier he committed to Virginia Tech, but decided to take other visits. One was to Auburn where he was a standout at a summer football camp last year.
A two-year starter, the 6-0, 185-pound quarterback with 4.46 speed in the 40-yard dash has been a dominant player the last two seasons for Central. With 3,700 yards passing and 1,100 yards rushing to go along with 54 touchdowns in just two years.
Denson finished his high school playing days with an impressive performance in the annual Dade-Broward All-Star game last week. Despite playing just part of the game, he finished with 106 yards rushing on six carries and also passed for 55 yards and one touchdown in a 26-16 loss.
