Talented Football Prospect Laying Low For Now

The report features the latest on one of the state of Alabama's more heavily recruited prospects.

Smiths, Ala.--Smiths Station High linebacker Mitchell Thomas is taking a break from the pressure of being recruited by four schools and is not ready to announce his college choice just yet.

That is the word from his mother, Casie Thomas, who said that the 6-3, 211-pounder with 4.5 speed is still considering Auburn, Alabama, Notre Dame and Georgia.

"He has gone for a couple of days to get away by himself and think," Mrs. Thomas told Inside the Auburn Tigers on Sunday night. "He wants to make sure he thinks this through carefully. He will probably have a decision by Tuesday night."

Thomas had said that Notre Dame was his leader after visiting the Fighting Irish in December. However, that changed after taking what he called "a very interesting visit" to Auburn on Jan. 10th.

Thomas said that Auburn is recruiting him for the sam linebacker spot that was played so well last season by junior Karlos Dansby, who decided not to enter the NFL draft this year so he could play with what is shaping up as a very strong 2003 Auburn team. Dansby served as player host to Thomas on his visit.
