In-State Prospect Will Sign With Auburn

This in-state football prospect says he will sign with Auburn on Wednesday.

Alexander City, Ala.--Benjamin Russell High School standout Marquies Gunn will sign with the Auburn Tigers on Wednesday.

"I am going to be an Auburn Tiger," he told Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I like the college and it is close to home. I also like the Auburn coaches and players so that is where I am headed."

The 6-4, 212-pound defensive end was a key player on his team's 2001 state championship squad and on a team that won nine games this past season. Known as an excellent pass rusher, he was credited with 22 quarterback sacks as a senior. He has excellent quickness and runs a 4.6 40-yard dash.

Gunn picked the Tigers over Arkansas, Louisville and UAB, which were all colleges he visited, as well as the University of Alabama, which he decided not to visit this weekend.

He took an official recruiting trip to Auburn on Jan. 10th. On that visit, Gunn said he liked the players and coaches and was impressed with the team's togetherness. "The players told me they are like a big family," Gunn noted. "They hang out together. I think that is something that helps make a team successful."

Tiger Ticket Extra: Gunn has work to do academically and may have to make a juco or prep school start as a sign-to-place prospect. He is making progress and notes that he scored a 20 on his ACT on his last try.
