Mississippi Defender Signs With Tigers

This player was one of only two players over 200 pounds to run a 4.5 or better in the forty-yard dash at last summer's Nike Combine.

Greenville, Miss.--One of the top defensive ends in the South signed on the dotted line Wednesday with the Auburn Tigers as Quentin Groves made it official at a ceremony at his high school. A 6-4, 230-pound sack machine with 4.5 speed in the forty-yard dash, Groves chose the Tigers over Mississippi State in the final days of the recruiting process.

A dominating defensive end as well as part-time tight end, Groves led his team to a 6-5 record this season despite putting up enormous stats. With 21 sacks and 60 tackles along with three catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns, Groves displayed a knack for making the big play this season. A two-year starter, he led Class 5A in sacks as a junior with 14 and also had 97 tackles.

Quentin Groves

A multi-sport athlete who excels in powerlifting, track and basketball, Groves has been a key component for his school in several sports. With a personal best squat of 535 along with a bench press of 295 and a dead lift of 525, he has proven he can handle his own in the weight room. In track he throws the discus and has an impressive throw of 147' 7" in that event. A starter in basketball as well at power forward, Groves is an all-around athlete who should excel on the collegiate level when concentrating on one sport.

Groves also visited Georgia and Ole Miss and had offers from dozens of other schools. He will be a player that will have a chance to make an immediate impact at defensive end next year for the Tigers.
