Immediate Impact Potential For Speedy Signee

One of the most exciting signees in the 2003 class was literally recruited from coast to coast.

Reedley, Calif.--The nation's top-ranked junior college defensive end will have a chance to be an immediate contributor at Auburn this season.

Doug Langenfeld of Reedley Junior College is a 6-3, 247-pounder with exceptional speed for his position. His junior college coaches have clocked him at under 4.5 in the 40-yard dash. He used that speed to make 70 tackles with 13 1/2 sacks for the California state junior college football champions.

The Tigers played the entire 2003 season with a shortage of defensive ends and had to move linebacker Mayo Sowell and defensive tackle Dexter Murphy to provide some depth after injuries hit at a position the Tigers were already short in numbers.

Langenfeld, a South Carolina native, says that a chance to play for what he expects to be a strong Auburn team had a big influence in his decision to select the Tigers over Tennessee, Oregon and Nebraska. Langenfeld also notes that he likes the Auburn coaching staff.
